We like to read together
This week we started our home reading program. Over the past few weeks, Ms.D has spent time reading with us to find our "just right
level." These are the books that are considered to be at the instructional level for each individual student. It is important to find the correct level for each student so that they are able to challenge themselves, improving their reading, while not becoming frustrated. Too much frustration can lead to a child avoiding reading, which is the last thing we want. You can read more about just right books here.
If you find your child is struggling too much with their home reading books, please contact me as soon as possible.
Every day after lunch, Ms.D reads us a book while we finish eating. While we read many different books for different purposes during the day, this book is purely for enjoyment! We find this is a nice way to ease into our afternoon. Next we get to choose any book we like and find somewhere in the room to read. Sometimes we read in partners, sometimes we read by ourselves. We are really lucky to be able
to use Ms. Jeklin's personal book selection!
Next week we will be starting the school reading program. We will each get book slips to take home.
Each time we read a book, we will add the title to our slip. Once we have filled out the entire slip, we will return it to Ms. D. Each slip will earn us credits, which we will be able to exchange for prizes later on in the year.
Pretty cool right?
Please continue to read with us as much as possible at home. We really like it, and find it is a good way to spend one on one time with you! You can let us read our just right books, or you can read to us. We enjoy it all! Since we know that not all books are created equal, if you look here you may find some inspiration for choosing your next book.
